We woke to another clear, cool Belgian morning at the Hotel Welcome. We ate quickly and were soon whisked away to the airport.
Encumbered with 3 large suitcases and our 2 carry-ons apiece, our experience at the Brussels Airport was a confusing event; when we finally checked in, we were told that we could only bring one carry-on on board, and that all the other bags were overweight - the kilogram limit amounts to 46.6lbs for each bag; we had packed 50lbs. A moment of dry-mouthed panic ensued (Brussels Air charges hefty fees), but we had to do what we had to do...
Upon boarding the flight to Kigali we met up with Rebecca Tinsley (who is leading our group) and 2 other women. After an hour delay, we took off from Brussels and began the turbulent flight south to Kigali.
M was seated next to a man working with the Red Cross; she had a fascinating conversation with him the whole 8 hours about his travels to hotspots around the world.
Landing in Kigali, we luckily found all 5 of our bags and were chauffeured to Solace Ministries.
Tomorrow - the adventure really begins!
